Waterproofing is a meticulous undertaking. Failure to adhere to proper procedures and proper care can lead to numerous problems. Today, we’ll discuss common waterproofing coating installation issues. Be mindful to avoid them!
01. Poor adhesion to the base layer
Specific manifestations: Insufficient or inadequate adhesion between the paint and the base layer.
Preventative measures: 1. Clean the base layer thoroughly.
2. Check the strength of the base layer for signs of sanding or peeling.
3. Water-soluble paints must not have visible water.
4. Solvent-based paints must have a dry base layer.
5. Primer must be used for the first coat of paint.
02. Uneven thickness
Specific manifestations: Uneven thickness of the waterproofing layer.
Preventative measures: 1. The base layer must be leveled and free of holes.
2. Thin Apply multiple times.
3. Adjust the paint consistency according to actual conditions.
03 Bumping
Specific symptoms: Bumps appear in the paint. Small particles are present in the paint film after application.
Preventative measures: 1. Do not use expired paint or paint that has been stirred for more than one hour.
2. Inadequate mixing of two-component materials. Ensure the paint is mixed evenly and free of lumps.
3. Clean the mixing bucket in advance.
4. Follow the correct mixing ratios as required.
04 Paint delamination
Specific symptoms: The paint film delaminates or bubbles after forming.
Preventative measures: 1. Inadequate cleaning before each application during the multi-pass process.
2. The previous waterproofing film has not completely dried.
05 Slow drying speed
Specific cause: Because single-component acrylic paint forms its film through water evaporation, high humidity or low temperature environments hinder the evaporation of water in the paint, resulting in a slow drying speed.
Preventative measures: 1. Improve ventilation to facilitate water evaporation.
2. Apply thin layers and multiple coats to further facilitate water evaporation. During application, always wait until the film is dry before applying the next coat.
3. Using cement-based paint or other waterproofing coatings.
06 The film cracks after waterproofing is completed.
Specific Causes: 1. The base layer is not cleaned properly, with loose dirt, dust, etc.
2. Applying a single coat too thickly causes uneven moisture evaporation during the drying process, which leads to cracking.
3. Outdoor construction in windy conditions can easily cause cracking.
Preventative Measures: 1. Remove loose dirt from the base layer before construction, prime the base with a primer, and apply multiple, thin coats.
2. Avoid outdoor construction in windy conditions.
07 Waterproof paint dregs
Cause: Excessive water addition causes separation of the liquid and powder, causing the powder to sink.
Preventative Measures: Control the amount of water added and strictly follow the product instructions for mixing.
